Shameik went to a patient's home the week of Christmas and encountered a heartbreaking situation of poverty and hunger. Multiple children and adults in a home, and no food in the refrigerator. Only "food" in the home was a package of cookies, which were designated as "daddy's cookies". The children were asking for food, and their mother, who is bed/chair bound, had nothing other than a cookie to give them. The family resides in a rental trailer which has no ramp for mom to use for access. Shameik left the home with a heavy heart. She presented this need to her church, and they adopted this family for Christmas. She was able to stock their pantry and refrigerator with food and provide gifts for the children. She contacted community resources to assist in building an access ramp so the patient is able to exit the home safely. This is the heart of a nurse, the exemplification of the term Naven, and exemplifies the true spirit and meaning of Christmas. Shameik is an amazing nurse, all-around person, and goes above and beyond for her patients.
