Serena saved my life that day. The cellulitis had spread and taken over so quickly that there's no way I would have survived without her intervention.
I wouldn't be here if it weren't for Serena Totzke-Johnson's persistence and dedication to getting me seen. I had canceled a doctor appointment as I felt I would be ok waiting a little longer. However, Serena kept calling me repeatedly to please come in for a quick checkup. I finally agreed, hoping to end Serena's constant phone calls.
When I arrived at the Sanford Jackson Clinic in Jackson, MN I was met by Serena who had a wheelchair with her. We went straight to the ER. I was shocked! I had never had a nurse meet me at my car with a wheelchair to get me inside the hospital!
It's a blessing that Serena didn't give up trying to contact me that day. I'd been undergoing chemotherapy, which had depleted my immune system. A simple blister had turned into a debilitating cellulitis in my right foot. I was unable to walk at this point without being in severe pain.
What I first thought was an annoying nurse who wouldn't take no for an answer turned into a guardian angel for me that day. Serena convinced me to return to the hospital. I've never heard of anyone who went to such great lengths as she did.
To be honest, Serena saved my life that day. The cellulitis had spread and taken over so quickly that there's no way I would have survived without her intervention.
Serena is the epitome of what a nurse is. She didn't have to keep reaching out to me that day. She could've focused her attention on other top priorities. However, there must've been something in her saying I was a critical case. She didn't call just once or twice. She called many times trying to reach me.
When I explained I was unable to drive anywhere, she suggested an ambulance to pick me up. I turned that option down, figuring they most likely would not provide a ride home in an ambulance after a quick checkup. She was relentless! I can't praise her enough for her persistence that day! Without her, I've no doubt I wouldn't have survived. Yes, Serena saved my life, and I'm forever grateful for it. She deserves recognition and appreciation for her efforts in caring for me. How often do we encounter someone who has literally saved someone's life? To be honest, she went above and beyond her job duties as a nurse. She deserves recognition for her efforts in saving my life. Without her, I wouldn't be here
