She verbalizes enthusiasm for nursing and patient care, revealing her passion for the profession.
Selina went above and beyond with patient care this week. She demonstrated excellent holistic nursing care for a very complex patient. She advocated for her patient for pain medication intervention prior to a complex and painful wound care intervention. She took the time and care to take her patient outside for some fresh air. She demonstrated an excellent understanding of, as well as implementation of, the nursing process. She seeks guidance when needed yet initiates appropriate and compassionate care independently. She communicates with patients and peers and healthcare team members in a compassionate and professional manner. She verbalizes enthusiasm for nursing and patient care, revealing her passion for the profession. I believe Selina exhibits the qualities of a DAISY Nurse.

***

I have not had experience with her from an academic standpoint, but do not hold that against her. I am confident that a scan of her academic record will provide you with enough evidence of excellence. I do have ample experience with her clinical commitment and compassion for underserved populations in Middle Tennessee. Specifically, I have worked with Selina at numerous vaccine events with the Vanderbilt Mobile Vaccine Program. I wish I could give you a specific number of events she has worked on, but I simply lost count.

Her most significant impact has been as a Spanish language translator at our Hispanic population vaccine events. At many events, she was our only means of communication with the community. In short, we would not have been able to have an event if she was not there as a volunteer. For most people, the fact that she was there is enough to qualify for this esteemed DAISY Award, but Selina's ongoing and consistent dedication to our program sets her in a league of her own.

I feel confident in the future of nursing knowing that Selina is fast on her way to being a dynamic nurse and representative for our Vanderbilt Nursing community. I will absolutely cherish the countless hours that we have spent vaccinating and talking with members of our Spanish community. By the way, she is already signed up for our next event at Plaza Mariachi!
