Sasha came into the clinic, decorated S's room, brought her favorite flavor of cupcakes, and handmade cards from her two sons. This was a complete surprise for S, and made her feel so loved, seen, and cared for. She was extremely touched by the gesture.
My sister, S, has been receiving care at the blood cancer center in Durham on and off for the last 2 years. Her cancer came back for the third time in October, and she has since been staying in Durham again, which is four hours away from her home. Her family, friends, and care team were heartbroken to learn her cancer had returned.
There were two instances where Sasha went above and beyond for S: on her birthday and Christmas.
S's 28th birthday was in December and had a visit at the clinic that day. On her day off, Sasha came into the clinic, decorated S's room, brought her favorite flavor of cupcakes, and handmade cards from her two sons. This was a complete surprise for S, and made her feel so loved, seen, and cared for. She was extremely touched by the gesture.
On Christmas Eve, S found out she had pneumonia and had to be hospitalized. This was especially devastating because she was expecting to come home for a couple of days, but that wasn't going to be possible. When Sasha learned S was being admitted, she ventured out again on her day off to buy Christmas decorations for S's hospital room. She brought them to her that morning, and S was completely blown away by her compassion and thoughtfulness, especially during such a hectic time.
Sasha's heartfelt actions have made an immeasurable difference on S's morale during these challenging times. Her selflessness and genuine care exemplify the true spirit of nursing, going far beyond the call of duty to bring comfort and joy to her patients. Sasha's extraordinary kindness and compassion make her a deserving candidate for the DAISY Award, as she continues to inspire and uplift everyone around her.
