She took time when she had a moment to show compassion and empathy for me during this sensitive time.
I spent 5 days in the hospital from what was originally supposed to be an overnight stay to monitor my blood pressure, then turned into a preterm delivery of my 35-week gestational baby. This was a time for my partner and me, as we were equally confused, worried, scared, and yet excited to finally meet our daughter.
Sarah was assigned to me for the majority of my stay. She was very thorough with her patient education, assisted with whatever I needed every time the call light was pushed, checked in on my partner and me in between rounds just to be sure we were okay. Sarah even came by to check on my daughter and me after she was born, even though she wasn’t assigned to me that specific day. She took time when she had a moment to show compassion and empathy for me during this sensitive time.
As a nurse myself, having Sarah tend to us as she did made me realize just how important it is to truly see your patient as a person and not just an assignment. She made this moment special for us, and I couldn’t thank her enough. Thank you, Sarah, for everything.
