I was admitted to the Cardiac Unit from the emergency department. It was a shock to me how sick I was, what ignoring warning signs can do to your body, and how close to a huge serious risk of life I took for granted. Sarah Oxford, my day RN is what The DAISY Award was made for. She took excellent care of me each and every day. She explained my blood work, my new, very personal foley catheter, and every pill, doctor, or test thrown at me. She saw a medicine, unknown to me, gave me an allergic reaction and made me very intensely sick and she held a vomit bag for me. She cleaned me, talked to me, taught me how to help me get better, explained my ups and downs and a new diet for my failing kidneys. She went over the doctor talk, she even did my release paperwork on the fourth day.
Sarah is my hero, she is a star in every way. She is Carson Tahoe, what every RN, should be striving to emulate. She is a teacher, a professional in every aspect. Our community is richer and fuller for her being here at Carson Tahoe. She is a blessing and a healer for the mind, body, and soul. Honor this dedicated professional Registered Nurse who I am forever grateful. An unsung heroine of the Cardiac third floor whose presence and dedication to duty are phenomenal and special to all.
