Sarah, you are an incredible human. Your passion as a nurse shines, and that in itself is a beautiful thing.
We were devastated to find out that our sweet baby boy was no longer viable and had already met face to face with Jesus. A routine high-risk appointment in Richmond ended with us being admitted into the labor and delivery ward at VCU Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA, to deliver our sweet, tiny boy. The world became dark.
The next morning, Sarah was assigned to us to help Dr. M with our care. Sarah's compassion, kindness, and love radiated in the room from the minute she walked in. On the darkest days of our lives, Sarah came in with knowledge, respect, and, as said above, love that covered the entire room and helped us navigate through.
From holding me while I cried as I got an epidural, to holding me as I cried while holding my lifeless, precious boy, with every single thing that had to happen, Sarah helped walk us through each process. Before going home, she helped me to get up, shower, and regroup.
Sarah helped me navigate my process for being out of work, advocated for me when I couldn't handle the pain anymore, and ensured I did not leave until I was ready mentally and physically. The anxiety of the process of having our baby boy laid to rest and having tests run on him prior to, was gently acknowledged with respect by Sarah as she explained each step that was to happen.
There is no way to explain the feeling of having your baby in your arms, and she ensured we got every single second we desired with our boy, with minimal to no interruptions. When her shifts were over, she did a final check-in to make sure we knew who was coming in, if we needed anything at all before she left, and when she would be back the next day.
I pray that Sarah knows every single day how grateful and appreciative we are for her and the love she gives as a nurse to her patients. We are truly the lucky ones. I pray so hard that the next time we cross paths in L&D, the minutes and days will be brighter and have a happier ending, never to forget the memories and time we spent with her during this difficult time in our lives.
Sarah, you are an incredible human. Your passion as a nurse shines, and that in itself is a beautiful thing. Thank you for being by our sides day in and day out. We could never say thank you enough. Nor could we think of anyone more deserving of this. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
