September 2026 Honoree
Sarah Bommarito, RN, BSN
We showed up to our scheduled weekly prenatal appointment, not knowing for sure that we would be sent up to the birthing center that afternoon for a very long, hard induction. We were there Friday through Monday. I had very minimal sleep, was nervous and anxious for what all was to come. The nurse took away so much of that anxiety and nerves for me. She walked me through every step of the induction process as it came and continuously checked in on me. She filled up my water without me asking, brought snacks, heat packs, etc. You name it, she was going to bring it and do whatever was needed to keep me as comfortable as possible. Not only did she bring things, but she also brought lots of advice and encouragement. When it came time to get the epidural, I had to get it done twice. She was there the second time I had to get it; she held me and told me to "breath in and out" her calmness in that moment, literally was exactly what I needed. I felt that this nurse went above and beyond for us, and I'm sure she does for many other first-time moms. She made a long, dreaded induction seem not so bad after all. She was not just a labor and delivery nurse to me; she was the calm and steady presence that I needed through every single tough moment I went through.
Thank you, Sarah, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
