I am honored to nominate our RN Nurse Lead, Sara Lopez, for the DAISY Award for her exceptional leadership, clinical judgment, and unwavering support during a critical emergency. While I was caring for a student as an SHA at Benoist Farms Elementary, a student experienced an active seizure that lasted approximately 16 minutes. During this high-stress and frightening situation, Sara immediately stepped in, took charge calmly, and guided the response with confidence and professionalism. She ensured the students’ safety, coordinated care, and provided clear direction so that everyone involved knew exactly what to do. What stood out most was not only her clinical skill but also her support for me as a staff member. She remained reassuring, communicated effectively, and helped me stay focused while we managed the emergency. Her calm presence reduced panic and created an organized response that protected the student and allowed the situation to be handled appropriately. After the incident, she continued to check on both the student and staff, demonstrating compassion, teamwork, and genuine care beyond the immediate medical needs. Her leadership, composure under pressure, and dedication to patient safety exemplify the true spirit of nursing. For these reasons, I proudly nominate her for the DAISY Award.
