She was kind; she talked to me and explained everything clearly.
I was brought into the trauma unit after my brother and I were in a serious car accident. My brother was discharged; however, I was placed in the trauma unit for thirteen plus days. During my sixth day, I was taken off the ventilator and came out of full sedation. I was scared. I’m fifteen. I last recall being in my school classroom, and now I found myself in a room full of nurses, doctors, and my family.

I remember Sara. She was kind; she talked to me and explained everything clearly. For several days after I would have her as my nurse. Sara had to replace my catheter as I was not able to go to the bathroom. I wasn’t happy. She explained things to me. Her trainee told me that Sara had gone home from her shift, but would make sure she knew I wanted it out.

Over the next few days, Sara asked me personal questions. Smiled with me. She was so excited to meet my brothers. I have a twin and two additional older brothers. Even when she wasn’t assigned to my room, she still came in. She checked on me. She cared. She wasn’t just a nurse there for her job. Shortly before leaving, my mom captured a picture of her as I was wheeled through the halls by my mom. She had no problem getting a picture with me. It made me happy. The next day, she met my twin.

Sara kindly came into my room when I was having a down moment. I missed my friends. I was hurting. I broke areas of my spine, my ribs, and had both collapsed lungs. Sara asked me if I wanted an ice cream sundae. She was making one for herself and thought I could use one too. It was Oreo ice cream, and I asked for caramel topping. My mom was happy because I ate.

I liked Sara. I looked forward to her kindness and her smile. She cared for me, my mom, and cared about my personal life. She deserves an award! She is kind, she is caring, and she shows the values Bronson promotes. My life was shaken by an auto accident with my brother, and she made my days in the ICU better.
