Even in the midst of what was a very stressful time for me physically and emotionally, I felt reassured knowing she was there to advocate for me and ensure my needs were being met.
I would like to wholeheartedly nominate Sara, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional care she provided during my recent inpatient stay. I had the privilege of having Sara as my nurse for two days in a row, and throughout that time, she demonstrated everything you hope for in a nurse: compassion, attentiveness, professionalism, and a truly caring heart.
From the moment she first entered my room, Sara was a calming and supportive presence. She communicated clearly and kindly, explaining every step of the process in a way that made me feel informed and comfortable. Even in the midst of what was a very stressful time for me physically and emotionally, I felt reassured knowing she was there to advocate for me and ensure my needs were being met. She never seemed rushed or impatient, even though I knew there was a high census. She treated me like a person, not just a patient.
One of the moments that stood out most to me was when my anxiety began to escalate. The room I had been assigned to felt small and closed-in, which was adding to my distress. Sara noticed right away that something wasn't right, and she didn't just brush it off or give me a generic answer. She truly listened. She took the time to talk with me about how I was feeling, and when I explained what was going on, she worked with the team to help move me to a more open room. That change made a huge difference in my ability to rest and recover. It might have seemed like a small thing to some, but to me, it meant everything. It was an act of kindness and advocacy that I'll never forget.
Sara went above and beyond in every interaction, making sure my medications were on time, checking in regularly, helping with mobility, and offering encouragement when I needed it most. But more than that, she made me feel safe and cared for during a vulnerable time. Her positive attitude, gentle nature, and unwavering support created a healing environment that I know had a real impact on my overall well-being. I believe Sara exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award. She brings not only skill but also deep empathy to her work, and I'm incredibly grateful for the care she gave. Nurses like Sara are rare, and I feel lucky to have been in her care.
