Sandra Shier, RN

As a nursing student, having a great nurse is essential for growth and learning- someone who is approachable, kind, and the type of person you look up to. From the very beginning of my clinical experience at Corewell in the fall of 2025, she created an environment I felt welcomed, valued, and safe in. I can honestly say she is one of the kindest and most supportive nurses I have met. Sandy has always taken the time to explain not only the “how” but also the “why.” Her patience and encouragement helped build my confidence as a soon-to-be nurse. What stands out most about Sandy is how she treats every individual with compassion and always takes time to comfort, listen, and reassure her patients, even during her busiest shifts, all while teaching. Sandy has never once made me feel like a burden, but instead has always made me feel important and wanted around. Her kindness, professionalism, and dedication have left a lasting impression on me and will influence the way I practice as a nurse throughout my career. For these reasons, I believe she more than deserves the DAISY Award, as she is shaping the next generation of nurses.
