Sam has always exuded compassion, not only to her patients but also to her colleagues. She exemplifies what it is to be an ICU nurse and also a team player. One example of her dedication to her patients is a patient she is currently caring for in the ICU. The gentleman is dealing with some personal and health challenges while being in the unit that are outside of his control. Sam has been trying to keep the patient's spirits up by taking a little extra time throughout her day to talk to him. The patient was also not pleased with his food options, and Sam took the time to grab him something he liked. It's always the little things that matter most.

This is a small example of what Sam does for her patients. I have always said that if I ever had to be cared for in a hospital setting, especially in the ICU, she would be the nurse I would want to care for me. Her thoughtfulness, dedication, and compassion do not go unnoticed. I am delighted to have her as part of the Piedmont family, but most importantly, in a unit that requires such a level of empathy and compassion.
