This nurse is an ideal candidate for a nurse who should receive a DAISY Award. My son has been back and forth to the hospital over the last three months on four separate occasions with the recurrent abscess. When we first arrived at the ER yesterday, I was overwhelmed because I felt like this was a constant issue that kept coming up. When the ER doctor came and told us we would not be admitted and to follow up with the patient for the next available date, which was five days away, I was very upset and defeated. I felt like I was not able to correctly advocate for my son. I decided to try and speak with the nurse to see what else I could be doing. This nurse was very compassionate, understanding, and shared similar frustrations. After listening to me talk and reviewing all of my son's prior notes from a prior stay, without a second thought, she went and spoke with the doctor and shared her concerns. Together, both the nurse and the doctor were able to collaborate and decided that we should be admitted so that we could talk to the surgeon the next morning. This nurse's proactive response to my concerns was a genuine gesture of how she respected me as a mom worried about her son. Once we were admitted, this Nurse even took the time to come and check on us when we were admitted to the floor. While we were down in the ER, she did a great job keeping us calm while she had to insert his IV, and she also made sure that every need we had while in the ER was being met. I know this may seem like a small gesture to advocate for a very worried mom; however, to be seen and to feel like I was seen has helped relieve a 1000 pound weight off my shoulders. Thank you for being patient with me, for being kind when I needed it the most. I will never forget this moment, Sam. Thank you
