Sam Keele demonstrated exceptional clinical skill and unwavering attentiveness that made a life-saving difference for one of our patients. A 65-year-old male arrived in the Emergency Department with chest pain. While his initial EKG appeared normal and the ER was exceptionally busy, Sam remained closely attuned to the patient’s condition. He noticed the patient’s pain was not improving and continued to advocate for his care.

Sam’s vigilance didn’t stop there—he personally sought out the physician to report a sudden concerning change on the monitor, noting ST-segment abnormalities. Acting quickly, he initiated a repeat EKG and alerted the provider within seconds of the change. That EKG revealed a STEMI, and the patient was emergently transferred to the Cath lab at JPH, where they found a 100% occlusion, according to an update from Dr. M.

Sam’s calm focus, clinical intuition, and compassionate persistence undoubtedly saved this patient’s life. His actions exemplify what it means to be a DAISY Nurse—dedicated, alert, and deeply committed to the well-being of every patient.
