One of the most powerful examples of RN Galla’s excellence occurred while she was caring for a critically ill patient who was unable to advocate for themselves.

I observed how she recognized subtle but significant changes in the patient’s condition and immediately relied on her strong clinical judgment to escalate her concerns. Her timely intervention led to rapid treatment and ultimately prevented further deterioration. The patient was upgraded to a higher level of care, and when the patient later returned to the unit, both the patient and family expressed sincere gratitude for the exceptional care RN Galla had provided.

This experience reflects her unwavering commitment to vigilance and patient safety—qualities emblematic of DAISY honorees.

I have also seen RN Galla provide deeply compassionate care during emotionally challenging moments, particularly while caring for a patient and family facing end of life decisions. She created an environment of dignity, comfort, and peace, taking the time to sit with the family, explain complex medical information with clarity and empathy, and ensure their loved one’s final moments were treated with the utmost respect.

The family later shared how profoundly grateful they were, expressing that RN Galla transformed one of the most difficult experiences of their lives into one marked by connection, understanding, and comfort.

In another instance, I witnessed RN Galla go above and beyond to support a vulnerable patient experiencing significant anxiety related to an upcoming surgical procedure. She advocated for the patient by arranging for the physician to further explain the procedure and then remained at the bedside to ensure all of the patient’s questions were answered.

Through patience, active listening, and reassurance, RN Galla ensured the patient felt heard, safe, and supported. She collaborated closely with the interdisciplinary team to meet both the emotional and clinical needs of the patient, demonstrating the holistic approach that defines extraordinary nursing practice.
