I asked my 18-year-old son, who does not have opinions on too many things, what he liked about Sabrina, and he said, "Everything."
Sabrina was one of my son's nurses when he was admitted to the CICU for tachycardia and Afib. He is only 18. The best thing that I can say is, she was a human being first, and a nurse second. She recognized the fear in our eyes and comforted us with her explanations and attitude. She was not just spouting clinical language and statistics as the doctors were. She texted the doctors when she could see that we were drowning in fear, so they would come more quickly with results and information, which, thank God, was positive news.
My son, who was clearly terrified, was comforted by her calmness and encouraged by her words. When my husband and I returned to the room after a trip to the cafeteria, my son exclaimed to Sabrina, "Do you want to tell them, or should I?" She said, "It's your news!" He was excited to tell us that his heart had converted back to Sinus Rhythm after being in Afib for 24 hours. We celebrated, and Sabrina celebrated with us. She seemed just as excited as we were.
We were discharged with a prescription to our local pharmacy, which we did not realize closed at 5 pm on Saturday. Not knowing what to do, I called Sabrina at the hospital, and she literally researched pharmacies that were in our area and rerouted the prescription so that we were able to pick it up at our local Walmart pharmacy that evening. The simple fact that we were going to be able to have the prescription for our first night home was a tremendous comfort. I was so grateful that Sabrina took the time to get us in a good place. I asked my 18-year-old son, who does not have opinions on too many things, what he liked about Sabrina, and he said, "Everything." She was a very positive part of a very terrifying experience.
