Sabina Fafa Ketormanya: The Lifeline of Ziavi
centerSabina Fafa Ketormanya, affectionately known as "Daa Fafa" (Mother Fafa), is a midwife whose extraordinary compassion transformed maternal healthcare in the Ziavi community. Upon discovering that the local health centre lacked a maternity unit, forcing women to give birth at home with high complication risks, she took it upon herself to establish one. Sabina personally raised funds from community elders and philanthropists to build a wooden maternity block and procured essential medical equipment with her own funds.
Her unwavering dedication saw her travel on motorbikes while pregnant to provide outreach services to remote villages and to conduct health education in markets to overcome traditional barriers to care. Sabina’s holistic approach is best seen through her individual patient care.
A nominator credits Sabina with saving her life by identifying a difficult labor and swiftly coordinating an emergency caesarean section. During the patient’s subsequent crisis, Sabina visited daily on her time off, providing personal prayers and nourishing meals to aid her recovery. Whether delivering a baby in a heavy downpour or treating every patient like family, Sabina serves as a beacon of excellence in midwifery.
