Ryan noticed the vinyl and came in for his next shift with a portable record player for her to use to listen to her album.
Although Ryan was never assigned to my mother directly, he won over her heart. My mother was in the hospital with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She was getting worked up for a lung transplant and ran into some complications, which resulted in a 2.5-month stay before being transferred to another hospital. During her stay at MGH, my son brought in her favorite vinyl, Cat Stevens. She proudly propped it up on her window and couldn’t wait to get home and listen to it. Ryan noticed the vinyl and came in for his next shift with a portable record player for her to use to listen to her album. He also brought a collection of vinyls and allowed her to listen to them for days. The music gave her so much joy. She couldn’t believe that Ryan did that for her. She enjoyed the music so much. It was part of her healing journey. Ryan noticed how much strength and joy the music gave her, and he decided to gift her the record player. I cannot express how grateful my mother was, and still is, for that generous act. In her time at MGH, Ryan was extremely kind, caring, and supportive. Ryan, I can’t thank you enough! When it came time to med flight to Chicago, we were only allowed to take one small piece of luggage each. I came with one outside so that my luggage could be designated to the record player. Now, here in Chicago, as mom recovers from a double lung transplant, she will continue listening to her vinyls and never forget how much Ryan did for her in those kind gestures. He is a true angel.
