I was a patient on 2 West, and Ryan Salazar was my nurse multiple times during my stay. I remembered him the moment I saw him again because during my previous hospitalization, I had just undergone an amputation, and I was a very difficult patient. I was dealing with a lot of pain and was new to phantom pain. Although the entire 2W staff was great, Ryan stood out because he was informative, attentive, and patient with all of my questions and needs. It gave me peace knowing he would make sure everything was handled.

I was pleasantly surprised that he remembered me during this admission several years later, and this time, he had a question for me. He asked how I was doing with my amputation and applauded me for my progress and my willingness to take on the challenges that came with it.

Ryan provided exceptional service and cared for me like I was family. He also cared for my visiting family members (all of them) with that same spirit. His exceptional care has not diminished with time, burnout, or job fatigue. He ensures his patients feel comfortable, supported, and heard, and he gives his best to every single one of them.

At the end of each shift, Ryan always made sure to say goodbye. He gave me reassurance by telling me the next nurse would take just as good care of me as he did, and he would tell me I would be an easy patient for them. I know I’ve been a difficult patient in the past, but that never changed how Ryan cared for me in the present.
