Royanne was our nurse when we had our first child. My daughter came into this world through a scheduled cesarean. I thought I was prepared for the pain after the surgery, but I truly did not know what to expect. After the first 24 hours, I began to really struggle with mobility and intense pain. I could barely stand up by myself and was in bed for almost 24 hours a day for the first few days. When it was Royanne’s shift, she advocated for me and did her best to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. One night, in particular, my thick, wavy hair had begun to mat from being in bed so much, and Royanne helped detangle it and braid it for me. That gesture meant more to me than I’m able to express. She wasn’t just trying to ensure that I wasn’t in pain; she wanted me to genuinely feel okay and like myself. Royanne is kind, thoughtful, a fantastic nurse, and a wonderful human. She ensured I felt seen and heard after having my first child, and my experience at BMC was phenomenal, especially because of her care and attention.
