In the morning, Roxana went above and beyond—she took time out of her busy day to sit and have breakfast with my mom, simply to talk and be present with her.
When my mom was recently hospitalized for an infection, we were still reeling from the sudden loss of my dad just two weeks prior. It was a time of overwhelming grief and emotional exhaustion for our entire family. In the midst of all that pain, Nurse Roxana became a beacon of light for us, someone who made a lasting difference that we will never forget.
Roxana was the only nurse who went out of her way to make sure my mom was truly comfortable—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. She saw my mom as a whole person, not just as a patient. That level of care made all the difference. My mom was struggling deeply, spending the entire night crying from the weight of her grief and the loneliness of being in the hospital without her family by her side. Visitors weren’t allowed overnight, but Roxana made sure my mom never felt alone. She let my mom know she had someone there to talk to, someone who genuinely cared and would listen without judgment.
In the morning, Roxana went above and beyond—she took time out of her busy day to sit and have breakfast with my mom, simply to talk and be present with her. It was such a small gesture on the surface, but to us, it meant the world. She brought comfort, peace, and a sense of home during all the fear and sadness.
Throughout the night, Roxana kept me informed with regular updates and answered my calls with patience and compassion, never making me feel like I was a bother. She made sure both my mom and I felt supported, safe, and cared for, even though we weren’t physically together.
Roxana didn’t just take care of my mom’s health; she cared for her heart, her spirit, and our family. She gave us security at a time when everything felt uncertain. Her kindness and humanity will stay with us forever. She truly embodies everything the DAISY Award represents.
