Without the consistency of seeing the same RN in the ICU for such a long day, the shift would have added unbelievable anxiety to our family.  This extraordinary nurse (Rowdy)  bonded with me, our three children, and their spouses.  The confidence we had seeing our loved one was as comfortable as possible while being subjected to a necessary ventricle and IVs, and meds made treatment of a horrific stroke understandable and bearable.  He was incredibly serious in his care while also attending to his pain levels. 

The last day, Rowdy helped us transition him into Hospice.  That was exactly what we needed to accept the inevitable and tragic loss of husband and father.  We did not feel abandoned or brushed aside, instead we were shown empathy and sharing for our loss.

Our family would like to recognize Rowdy for his truly vigilant care of our loved one. He was never too busy to answer all our questions and concerns.  He was kind, patient, and careful in treating our loved one. He gave us privacy when he saw we needed time with him.  He arranged for PT and for the removal of his vent from the throat.  He helped transition him from the ICU to the hospice.  He was our voice!
