Without Ross and the other nurses that day, this patient would still be in the ER, lost, confused, and missing from his family and his safe space.
Ross was taking care of a patient in Core B that came in as an unknown name and arrived the night before his shift started. As he took over as the nurse, he was determined to figure out who this patient was because he was developmentally delayed and nonverbal and couldn’t tell us where he was from or what his name was. Ross went above and beyond and got a phone number from him and identified that he was from Philadelphia. He then contacted local police and local missing people in Philadelphia to finally identify this patient, who had been missing for three days prior to his ER visit.
Once Ross found police officers, the family was contacted and had been sick and worried about the patient. Without Ross and the other nurses that day, this patient would still be in the ER, lost, confused, and missing from his family and his safe space. Once the family arrived, the patient immediately had a giant smile when he saw his sister and other family members. Tears and hugs were seen as they greeted their missing family member, who was gone for three days. The family thanked Ross and the other nurses for bringing their family member home, and the patient could not stop smiling and hugging all the nurses while only saying thank you to us, which was a lot for him.
This award is for a nurse who goes above and beyond their job, and Ross did this exact thing. I think he should be recognized for the hours, work, and deduction he put in. The extraordinary work he put in and taking care of all the patient's needs when it came to their health and safety should not go unnoticed. I only hope that one day, I can do something extraordinary as Ross has done in small acts that led up to a large reward that truly made and changed someone’s life and their family's.
