Rosie worked hard to get special permission to have the patient's family be able to come up and see him. She advocated for that family and made sure they could see their loved one.
Wow, where to even begin with this nurse! They are a leader as a charge nurse, bedside nurse, ECMO specialist, and preceptor. They helped lead the charge to protect our unit during COVID and come up with procedures and protocols to keep doctors, nurses, and patients safe. But I want to nominate them for their care for one patient in particular.

Rosie took care of a patient who was in isolation and was not doing well. They worked hard to get special permission to have the patient's family be able to come up and see him. They advocated for that family and made sure they could see their loved one. This patient had been here a long time and Rosie was able to build a special connection with their family. The following week, the patient was going to pass and they specifically picked this nurse to care for this patient. The shift had barely started and the patient made a dip for the worse, so they went in and worked hard to keep the patient alive until the wife could get there. They then stood up to doctors, administrators, and more to bend the rules and allow more than two family members in the room, so his mother could say goodbye to him. They were so strong for that family. Exactly what they needed. But they were so filled with compassion for everyone involved. There was not a dry eye on the unit and even after such an emotional start to the shift, this nurse made sure no one else needed any help before taking a break.

After he passed, they stayed late to escort his body down for a special ceremony. The family may not remember their name or what they looked like, but they will never forget the impact they had in their lives and the way they cared for their loved one and them. This nurse truly exemplifies all that a DAISY Nurse should be.
