July 2026 Honoree
Rosemary Galloway, RN
My father was admitted after his dementia rapidly progressed, resulting in an unexpected admission. I asked to speak with his nurse before going in to see him. Rosemary Galloway sat with my Mom and me for at least 10 minutes. She reassured my Mom that, despite the best efforts, caring for a dementia patient is taxing and draining. She helped my Mom and I come to acceptance that my father’s needs were out weighing what any one care provider could provide and sustain it each day at home alone.
Rosemary’s time and compassion helped my Mom release the shame she felt that after 60 years of marriage, she needed help. As a nurse myself, I know Rosemary exemplifies compassionate care not only for her patient but also for their family. Her reassurance to us meant something to me because I knew she was not only doing the task of her job to care for my Dad but also made time to support us during the difficult time of placing him in memory care after discharge. I am honored that she cared for him on 3 day shifts because she is an outstanding example of compassionate care.
