Time after time, Rose proved to be compassionate, caring, friendly, dedicated, and competent, and with the patience to share her years of experience with her student nurse.
I was a patient at MCR for 10 days after quadruple bypass surgery. Being 80 years old, the recovery time was difficult and extended by two partially collapsed lungs and afib. During that time, I received excellent care from all of my nurses and hospital staff. One nurse, Rose, impressed me with such extraordinary skill and care that it has moved me to nominate her for the DAISY Award.

The day Rose walked into my room with a student nurse in tow, I thought "Now there is a battle axe of a nurse". Far from it. Time after time, Rose proved to be compassionate, caring, friendly, dedicated, and competent, and with the patience to share her years of experience with her student nurse. There are numerous examples of the qualities and skills that Rose demonstrated that I could share, but for brevity, I will share two.

Rose possesses extraordinary teaching skills! MCR is a teaching hospital. As a professor emeritus with 40+ years of experience teaching, I am well aware of the qualities that a good teacher has, and Rose demonstrated these qualities time and time again. By sharing her years of experience with her student, she would patiently and kindly demonstrate and encourage her student to try different techniques and skills. This led the student to experience different and possibly better ways to do things. Rose is an exceptional example of what makes MCR an outstanding teaching hospital.

Another example of Rose's dedication to her job, patients, and MCR is that one day there was a big snowstorm/blizzard, and the roads were treacherous. Rose lives in the mountains and she drove for 2 hours to get to work. When she entered my room, rather than complaining about the drive, she shared pictures of her pulling her 2-year-old granddaughter on a sled in the snow. What dedication! What caring! By the time I was discharged from MCR, Rose had not only become my trusted nurse, but a good new friend. Thank you, Nurse Rose!
