There was a patient who wanted his door closed all the time. She acted on her instinct and checked on the patient and found that he lit the curtain on fire.
Rosanna Mateo is an amazing nurse. This page is not enough to describe her as a Nurse. She is hardworking and helpful in many ways. She takes the initiative to help when she knows all the Nurses are busy or drowning. As the Charge Nurse in the Cardiovascular Telemetry Wing, she can handle any situation gracefully and calmly. She is a great team leader, so smart and full of compassion for patients.

On one occasion, I had a patient who was so demanding, always asking for something, and always mad. She handled the situation with no sweat. She actively listened to the concerns of the patient, acknowledged her fears, and gave reassurance. She explained the treatment plans well and in an empathetic manner. She is a one-of-a-kind team leader.

On another occasion, a patient was mean, verbally abusive, and cursed a lot. Every nurse needed to rotate to take care of him because he was so hard to handle. I was willing to take care of that patient because I knew that I was in good hands. I knew my Charge Nurse would support me all the way and wouldn’t leave me behind, no matter what.

On a third occasion, there was a patient who wanted his door closed all the time. She acted on her instinct and checked on the patient and found that he lit the curtain on fire. The fire alarm didn’t sense the fire. Rosanna has good reflexes and activated the fire alarm; she squeezed off the curtain and put out the fire. I can't imagine what would have happened if the fire had progressed.

Maybe we would all have lost our jobs, or worse, a lot of people would be hurt because of the oxygen on the wall.

Rosanna is a one-of-a-kind Nurse who deserves recognition. She goes way beyond expectations; she saved our jobs, and our hospital is here today because of her. Please recognize her; she deserves to be a hero.
