Ronald's decisive leadership, preparation, and willingness to assist immediately prevented harm to both staff and the patient.
Our ICU charge nurse demonstrated extraordinary leadership, teamwork, and calm in a situation that could have become a catastrophe.

As the Nursing Supervisor on duty, I witnessed firsthand how this charge nurse managed an exceptionally demanding day. The ICU had multiple 1:1 patients and two patients crashing simultaneously, yet the charge nurse maintained steady, proactive communication with our Nursing Supervisor team through phone calls, chat messages, and in-person check-ins.

Ronald consistently demonstrates these leadership qualities every day, but on this shift, they were especially critical.

During this already high-acuity day, I received an urgent call from the 6E telemetry unit regarding a new admission who had become severely agitated. When I arrived, I encountered a very large young adult who was violently striking walls, kicking the bed, and shouting threats that placed staff and patients at immediate risk.

Security was doing their best to de-escalate the situation, but it was clear we were seconds away from someone being seriously injured. The patient’s physician was unable to come to the bedside because they were assisting with a critical patient in the ICU.

In that moment, as the Nursing Supervisor, I knew we had to act quickly to prevent harm. I contacted the ICU charge nurse and urgently explained the situation. Without hesitation—and without needing further details—Ronald responded with calm and confidence: “Bring the patient to the ICU. We will be ready.”

With the help of multiple security officers, we were able to safely transport the patient to the ICU. Upon arrival, Ronald was already at the bedside with several staff members and the patient’s physician. The environment was fully prepared, organized, and under control.

The patient was safely restrained and medicated, and—most importantly—no staff members were injured.

Ronald's decisive leadership, preparation, and willingness to assist immediately prevented harm to both staff and the patient. His ability to stay organized, flexible, and supportive—even during high-stress and unpredictable situations—made a meaningful and potentially life-saving difference for everyone involved.

Our Nursing Supervisor team is deeply grateful for the exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration this ICU charge nurse demonstrates every single shift.
