His peers noted that Mr. Arbis was pivotal in quickly activating the code blue system and jumping into action.
Having you on the team makes a huge difference. I want to acknowledge you for taking the initiative to assist our PACU group during the CODE BLUE on a patient. You didn't hesitate to take the role of the CPR person. Because of your quick action in combination with the other nurses in the group, our patient survived and achieved ROSC after just giving two rounds of CPR. Thank Rod! You rock!

In August, a patient underwent a routine surgery. He progressed well through the recovery process and was preparing for discharge. The patient and his daughter were in the room, and the daughter was helping the patient to dress. Suddenly, the patient stated, “I don’t feel well, I need to sit down.” The patient sat back on the gurney and closed his eyes. The daughter tried to rouse the patient, but he was not responsive. The daughter cried out for help, and Mr. Roderick Arbis, an Operating Room nurse passing through the phase II recovery area, heard the cry for help and went straight into the room. Another nurse followed Mr. Arbis into the room. Mr. Arbis quickly assessed that there was no pulse and immediately began compressions. A code blue was called. Mr. Arbis continued CPR until the patient woke up and began to talk. His peers noted that Mr. Arbis was pivotal in quickly activating the code blue system and jumping into action. While Mr. Arbis has been at FHCC for only about a year, he has been recognized by his peers for his exceptional patient care and team player attitude. Mr. Arbis is completely deserving of the DAISY recognition for patient care in and out of the Operating Room.
