For nearly six months, I've been grappling with an unexplained health issue. Despite undergoing numerous tests and scans, the cause remains unidentified. This ongoing health problem has significantly impacted my life, causing severe stress, anxiety, and disrupting my daily activities. The uncertainty and chronic nature of my condition have taken a considerable toll on my mental health, leaving me feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.
On a Saturday, my condition worsened into an infection, accompanied by lethargy and fevers. I started a course of antibiotics later that day. By Tuesday, my condition had drastically declined. I was extremely reluctant to seek help from the emergency ward due to long wait times and my previous experience.  However, the symptoms were so severe that I had no choice but to go, and I ended up being admitted to K4 West, bay 15.
From my first interaction with the triage nurse, all nursing staff in the emergency department and K4 West were nothing short of amazing. Their exceptional care and compassion made me grateful to be there, despite my initial reluctance. I submitted an online feedback form last night to praise the staff, and I sincerely hope that every person I mentioned receives well-deserved recognition for executing their important roles to such high standards.
I want to make a special shout-out to Robbie, who worked a double shift in K4 West on Wednesday. Robbie was absolutely spectacular in every aspect of her care. As a patient, being away from home, exhausted, scared, and in pain can be incredibly challenging. However, Robbie's friendly and welcoming nature made me feel almost at home, which is truly remarkable in such circumstances. Her interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport were phenomenal, providing a sense of comfort and security that is invaluable to patients.
At one stage, I flagged a concern with her due to the way a patient was speaking to a food services employee. Robbie managed the situation with impressive emotional intelligence, ensuring my confidentiality, shielding the kitchen staff from mistreatment, and preventing any escalation or humiliation for the patient. Her ability to handle such delicate situations with grace and professionalism is commendable.
Furthermore, Robbie took the time to engage in meaningful conversations with me about my unusual health condition. She made the effort to review my notes and explain things to me in layman's terms, ensuring that I understood my situation better. This level of dedication and empathy is rare and deeply appreciated. Robbie's actions not only provided clarity but also comfort during a very stressful time.
Robbie's exceptional care and compassion make her an outstanding candidate for this award. Her ability to make patients feel at home, despite the challenging circumstances, is a testament to her dedication and skill as a nurse.
