Roberto Nunez, MSN, RN
I would like to enthusiastically commend Bobby Nunez for the extraordinary care, leadership, and compassion he demonstrated while caring for a critically injured pediatric burn patient. From the moment another burn nurse and I arrived in the patient’s room, Bobby’s calm presence immediately stood out. In the midst of an incredibly complex and high-acuity situation, he remained organized, composed, and completely in control.
While expertly managing multiple critical medications and interventions, he simultaneously led a room full of physicians, nurses, and other team members with remarkable confidence and clarity. As a preceptor, he also skillfully guided the nurse he was orienting, ensuring excellent patient care while creating a valuable learning experience under the most challenging circumstances.
What impressed me most was Bobby’s exceptional clinical judgment. He consistently recognized subtle changes in the patient’s condition, anticipated the next steps, and responded quickly and appropriately. His ability to remain steady under immense pressure inspired confidence throughout the entire team and undoubtedly contributed to the excellent care this child received. Equally remarkable was the compassion he showed the patient’s family.
Despite the constant demands of caring for a critically ill child, Bobby never lost sight of the people behind the patient. He took time to provide thoughtful updates, answered questions with kindness and honesty, and found opportunities to bring the family into the room whenever possible so they could be with their child. During one of the most frightening moments of their lives, his empathy and reassurance brought comfort when they needed it most.
Bobby exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents. His intelligence, clinical expertise, leadership, dedication, and genuine compassion transformed an overwhelming situation into one where both the healthcare team and the family felt supported. He cared not only for his patient but also for everyone around him. It was truly a privilege to work alongside Bobby. He is an exceptional pediatric ICU Nurse who consistently demonstrates excellence in nursing, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.
