I appreciated Riley’s excellent care today. She worked hard to anticipate my needs, took the time to listen to my concerns, and advocated on my behalf with my providers.
There were miscommunication issues between me and the providers I had through my stay. Each day of my admission it was a struggle to get on the same page with the providers and have them listen to my concerns. I brought these concerns to Riley and she worked hard to reestablish what she could in order for me to have the best outcome as I am doing everything within my power to follow the doctors orders and advocate for myself but I have no control over what providers do in regards to changing medications. I appreciate that Riley understood my concerns and shared my same concerns regarding the safety and efficacy in using 2 oral narcotics and additional Tylenol when I was reaching the limit on the daily dose of Tylenol. Her efforts, interventions and compassion made a great deal of difference since this episode started on 12/22 and I waiting until 12/31 for the ERCP.
I worked with Riley to make a plan on food options that would be least likely to cause pain and spasms. I have been documenting each meal, what I eat, when I eat, how much I eat and when the pain begins, and quantifying the quality and duration. She was dedicated to helping me achieve my goal of resuming my diet and working within the parameters of both scheduled and PRN medications.
Without Riley advocating for me, I would be set back again by unnecessary and prolonged pain. Riley is a very deserving candidate for a DAISY nomination, and I do hope she is considered for an Award and she exemplified the values of Endeavor as well as being an excellent nurse. Thank you, Riley, for your hard work in my care today and advocating for me.
