Becky is a role model for empathy and caring. She can quickly establish a personal connection with every patient encounter. You can tell that she entered the nursing profession because of her great love for people. I have seen her put some of our most challenging patients at ease with her caring conversation. We perform a great number of epidural steroid injections and most of these patients are in severe pain. Within a few minutes, she has put them at ease and made a personal connection. She does not let others bring her down and excels in providing compassionate care.
Becky is an excellent clinician. She uses her surgical knowledge to educate, coach and teach others. Sher performs every role in our department at the expert level. A patient teacher, she has assisted in the successful orientation of every employee and student nurse in our department. When I was new to CCMC she was instrumental in my on-boarding. It is obvious she loves to teach and is very motivated to share her clinical knowledge with staff and patients. She explains as she goes, encourages questions and ensure you are comfortable in your knowledge. She is the best and most proficient nurse in the surgery department. She educates with confidence and allows you to learn on your own terms.
When it comes to professionalism and positivity, she sets the standard for others to emulate. Becky can find the positive in every situation. Perhaps her greatest gift is her ability to influence others. When there are tense situations whereby negativity creeps in, she is the first to say, "Come on guys, let's be positive and see if that makes a difference." She is an advocate for those who may not have a voice. She listens to all sides and finds a way to make situations better. She dresses and acts professionally and presents the image of a professional nurse. Becky likes to have fun at work and is always thinking of ways to bring the department together. She remembers all of her special days and is quick to organize around the achievements of others. She volunteers to put together material and displays for health fairs and other hospital events. She put together a display for our Ladies Night Out event and was instrumental in our entry for the hospital pumpkin decorating contest. She energizes others to participate and her energy is infectious. She is continually moving and thinking of ways to 'be better.'
With respect to our mission, vision, and values I can enthusiastically state she exemplifies them all through her conduct and dedication. She does not simply focus on the surgical problem and looks at every encounter as an opportunity to inform others what is available in Clay Center. She is 100% committed to our facility and truly loves her job - it is obvious to any who encounter her. Becky is a true DAISY Nurse.
