Although assisting us is not her primary role, when asked she always does so in a humble authentic manner which demonstrates her passion, empathy, and dedication to the delivery of excellent care.
Rebecca Romero consistently and repeatedly demonstrates attributes that are consistent with Parklands ICARE values. For example, over the past year, I have had the pleasure of working with Rebecca, a registered nurse on my floor in Anderson Clinic. Rebecca is very kind, professional and very helpful. I am an ultrasound tech, and I do not work with Rebecca side by side, however, whenever I go to Rebecca for help, she has always gone above and beyond, and steps out of her way to help.

There have been multiple occasions where Rebecca saved me and more importantly our patients from frustration, inconvenience, risk, and challenges requiring coordination of care. And, although assisting us is not her primary role, when asked she always does so in a humble authentic manner which demonstrates her passion, empathy, and dedication to the delivery of excellent care.

Here are just a few examples of Rebecca’s compassion and collaboration with our clinical setting, staff, and patients she works with. About a month ago, around 5 pm, the clinic was already closed, but I could not leave because I had a patient who needed to go to ED due to a critical finding. I was worried because I did not want to be by myself with a patient for safety reasons. I went to the nurse station, and Rebecca was leaving but Rebecca stopped and asked me if I needed help, once she learned the situation, she decided to stay and help me out without any hesitation. Rebecca helped me to call the ER for the reports and managed to have two people take the patient safely to the ER in a timely manner.

Another time, a few months ago, I had a patient come in on an ambulance on a Stryker. The patient was confused and restless. The patient was fighting to get up and get off the bed to use the restroom regardless of my efforts. Rebecca was passing by me and saw it and she immediately came over and joined me. She talked to the patient gently to calm the patient down; she then turned the patient and removed the soiled sheets and diaper and replaced them with clean ones. Rebecca also made sure that the patient received the right amount of oxygen. Rebecca spent a good amount of time with me and made sure the patient was taken care of safely. No doubt that I could not have done the exam without Rebecca's help.

Sometimes I try to express my appreciation to Rebecca, but she always just smiles and says things like, " Of course, any time" or "Oh, I did not do anything". Rebecca is very humble, kind, and helpful, these are just a few examples of a nurse who goes out of her way to help others even if they are not a part of our Sonography team. I feel she is deserving and would like her to be recognized!
