His advocacy for his patient led to a stroke diagnosis that was caught early
Raul was assigned an elderly patient on a clinical rotation. He accompanied her to PT and oversaw tucking her back into bed. When he mentioned that something seemed ‘off’ about his patient, the PT disregarded Raul's intuition and instructed him to put her back in bed. Instead, Raul went to the nurse and ended up administering a stroke assessment which identified hemiplegia, expressive aphasia, and short-term memory loss. His advocacy for his patient led to a stroke diagnosis that was caught early enough to allow for a full recovery.
