During my mother’s recent hospitalization—she's a transplant patient with complex needs—we encountered several challenges, especially due to our limited English proficiency. On our final day, RN Raquel Tejeda completely changed our experience through her extraordinary compassion and initiative. Though she wasn’t assigned to my mother, she overheard my father struggling to find the hospital pharmacy and, recognizing the language barrier, immediately offered to escort him. At the pharmacy, they ran into confusion with the prescription and an imminent 4 PM closing time, but Raquel took it upon herself to call multiple units using her personal cellphone until she reached a PA who could clarify the order. Thanks to her persistence, the medication was dispensed just in time. She then called me directly to explain the dosage change, ensuring we fully understood the new instructions. Raquel’s actions, taken completely on her own initiative, went far beyond her responsibilities and reflected a deep commitment to patient care. Her kindness, professionalism, and advocacy stood out during a very stressful time for our family.
