September 2026 Honoree
Randi-Carol Napier, RN
Randi-Carol worked with a patient who was immobile and had complex medical needs. She had cared for him long-term across various units and shifts. She identified that fresh air and a change of scenery would improve his care, lift his spirits, and provide hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. However, to safely get this patient outside, she needed extensive preparation and help. Randi-Carol organized an interdisciplinary team, coordinated a date and time, and prepared all supplies needed to safely transport the patient to the SJH Giving Garden. The team brought the patient down to the Giving Garden patio in his bed. The patient was emotionally moved to tears and smiles. The team played one of his favorite bands (Queen), and he air-guitar, lip-synced, and talked about his favorite movies. After being outside, the team brought him back to this room, and along the way he was still lip-syncing and thrusting his fist into the air in triumph. Randi-Carol continued to advocate for the patient’s comfort and wellness with his various care teams and visited him often, even when not assigned to his unit. This tremendous effort to restore a glimmer of dignity left a lasting impression on her coworkers and her patient.
Thank you, Randi-Carol, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
