What makes Rafael truly extraordinary is his ability to bridge education and bedside care seamlessly.
Rafael started out as a clinical nurse in the OR for a number of years. As he consistently demonstrated exceptional clinical and leadership skills and qualities, he gradually took on more administrative roles, such as being a health insurance liaison, in nursing quality, in nursing education, in nurse administration, and finally as a Magnet Program Director in 2024. He embodies the true spirit of nursing at all levels.
As a leader who guides everyone through education, Rafael is someone who teaches not only with knowledge, but with heart. Through his unwavering dedication, patience, and compassion, he consistently empowers nurses to grow with confidence, competence, and integrity. His presence creates a safe and inspiring learning environment where questions are welcomed, growth is encouraged, and every learner feels valued and supported.
What makes Rafael truly extraordinary is his ability to bridge education and bedside care seamlessly. He leads by example, demonstrating professionalism, ethical practice, and deep respect for patients and colleagues alike. Whether mentoring a new nurse, guiding a struggling learner, or refining clinical skills, he approaches every interaction with kindness, clarity, and genuine commitment to excellence. His passion for teaching and leading directly translates into safer patient care and stronger nursing practice. Beyond lessons and competencies, he leaves a lasting impact on hearts and careers.
With Rafael’s growing governance, he became very instrumental to SGH Jeddah’s success in achieving the prestigious and highly sought-after ANCC Magnet Designation with Distinction by building and leading a team of fellow nurses. His other important accomplishments, with the support of the Chief Nursing Officer, include spearheading the chartering as well as the first and second induction ceremonies of the Alpha Gamma Delta Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing in 2024 and 2025.
He also played a considerably significant role in achieving the hospital’s accreditation in the Practice Transition Accreditation Program as well as the ANCC Premier Award. Facilitating the nurses’ memberships in professional organizations such as the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), European Society of Cardiology, Organization of Wound Care Nurses, and the Philippine Nurses Association for Filipino nurses is also a part of his accomplishments as a leader. It is also worth mentioning that he served as a co-mentor of the Nursing Shared Governance Professional Development Council and was an active member in the Clinical and Quality Council and Nursing Research Council. He is currently the mentor of the Magnet and Well-being Councils across all SGH branches, directing and supporting nursing projects.
Rafael inspires confidence, instills pride in the nursing profession, and reminds others of the profound purpose behind the work nurses do. His influence extends far beyond the classroom, shaping compassionate nurses who carry these values forward.
Rafael is indeed deserving of recognition for touching lives, shaping futures, and exemplifying what it means to be an exceptional nurse.
