She builds trust with her patients/families and leaves a lasting positive impact on those she cares for.
Rachel’s level of commitment to her patients is immeasurable; she is a “constant” for her patients in a world that is forever changing for them. She takes their health, safety, and success very seriously, so much that she feels responsible for their failures even when she has done everything possible to avoid failure. I have said to Rachel before, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. Her response is “yes, but if I keep showing up with compassion and consistency, eventually they will drink!”

Rachel takes the time to truly listen to patients all of the time, but especially during difficult times. She listens to understand and wants to help her patients find solutions and success. She makes patients feel seen as humans, not dialysis patients. She builds trust with her patients/families and leaves a lasting positive impact on those she cares for. Because of Rachel, patients are able to maintain their independence and live fuller lives at home despite their kidney disease. Her compassion, skill, and dedication truly reflect the spirit of NURSING and make her an incredibly deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.

Her MD says… As a physician, I am honored to recommend Rachel McGee, home dialysis nurse, for the DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional care she provides to patients performing dialysis at home, particularly those on peritoneal dialysis.
  • Her clinical expertise, meticulous attention to sterile technique, and strong patient education skills consistently ensure safe and effective treatment. Beyond technical excellence, she demonstrates remarkable compassion, patience, and responsiveness—empowering patients and families to feel confident managing a complex therapy in their own homes.
  • She goes above and beyond to prevent complications, promptly address concerns, and provide reassurance during challenging moments. Her dedication directly improves patient safety, adherence, and overall quality of life.
  • Itis rare to encounter a clinician who so seamlessly combines technical mastery with heartfelt compassion. She truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her commitment to excellence in home peritoneal dialysis care.
