It wasn’t much, but in that moment, it felt like God was sending me someone to give me hope.
I went into NMC to give birth. Our baby was born at 3 pm and was immediately taken to the NICU. Our doctors had told us there was a problem with her heart, along with a possible Down Syndrome diagnosis. By 9 pm, she was life-flighted out to Children’s Mercy KCMO. My husband left to be with our baby, and I was left by myself. I had felt like my whole world was flipped upside down. I sat in my room thinking about how I was alone. At midnight, I heard a knock and a nurse came in with a small piece of cake and a handmade Birthday card. She told me that she understood that this is not how I wanted to spend my birthday, but that she was sorry. It wasn’t much, but in that moment, it felt like God was sending me someone to give me hope. My little one went on to have 2 major heart surgeries along with a Gtube placed. She has been through so much but every time I look at her I can’t help but to think about Rachel. If she sees this, then I would like her to know that I am so thankful for her. When I was in my most vulnerable and when I had felt my loneliest, you were there to make me feel loved.
