Your examples of excellence have set the bar high and touched so many lives. You are the heartbeat of this organization. You impact every person, every day, and it reaches far beyond just today.
Those honored among this team were Glena Andress, Celeste Ramirez, Nataly Tarango, Hailey McLeod, Ashley Steadmon, Olga Martinez, Brennan Bennet, Jasmine Jones, Norma Moore, Caitlyn Martinez, Pam Martinez, and Tracey Hall.
"Every team nominated for this award brought forward stories that truly inspired us. Stories of collaboration under pressure, seamless communication, and those little things like staying late, speaking up, and rallying around patients, all add up to make a huge difference for our patients and their faith,” said Kit Bredimus, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Midland Memorial Hospital. “Your examples of excellence have set the bar high and touched so many lives. You are the heartbeat of this organization. You impact every person, every day, and it reaches far beyond just today.”
The staff in the Post-Surgical Unit received a nomination from Diana Ruiz, Medical-Surgical Clinical Manager, who provided an overview of the staff's deep commitment to a patient for over 2 years. Her nomination read, “For 2 years, approximately 700 days, 1400 shifts, they showed empathy, concern, respect, love, and compassion beyond job descriptions, tasks, duties, and roles. The team became her only family day in and day out. Faithfully, every nurse and PCA kept her comfortable and well cared for over 16,000 hours. They never complained but rather advocated for her to receive the compassionate care that any of us would long for. They gave her a voice when she no longer had one.”
Diana Ruiz closed her nomination by stating, “It serves as a reminder that life is fragile and that, in the end, love and compassion are two things that must always remain in healthcare. While we can all hope to never be in a position where we have no family and no voice, the truth is that we never know what our future holds.”
This year's ceremony was an inspiring and emotional event, with special guests from Western Governors University (WGU) of Texas, the event's sponsor. WGU provided the Cinnabons, the traditional treat that began with the Daisy Foundation, for the reception after the event.
The DAISY Foundation's award program is a heartfelt initiative aimed at celebrating and recognizing nurses, the unsung heroes within the healthcare sector. Nominations are collected from patients, families, and co-workers to honor those who embody compassion and excellence in their practice.
Midland Memorial Hospital and the leadership at Midland Health extend heartfelt congratulations to the Post-Surgical Team for being this year’s recipient of the DAISY Team Award.
