They are a cornerstone of safe, high-quality care and a driving force behind meaningful improvements that benefit patients, families, surgeons, and anesthesia providers alike.
The Perioperative Services team at Laurens County Hospital is a remarkable example of the compassion, resilience, and excellence celebrated by the Team DAISY Award. Under the leadership of Cristy Martin, this team, including Pre-Anesthesia Assessment, Pre-Op, PACU, and Central Sterile, has demonstrated a relentless commitment to serving their community with skill and heart.

Despite facing multiple adversities that have impacted their work, the team has remained steadfast in its mission. They consistently demonstrate strong collaboration within their department and across the hospital campus, stepping forward to support other departments whenever their schedule allows. Their willingness to adapt and their eagerness to learn new skills highlight a culture rooted in growth, teamwork, and service.

Over the past year, the team has achieved significant advancements in patient care. They successfully introduced and supported the implementation of robotic surgery, expanding access to advanced surgical options within their community. In addition, they recently resumed 24/7 operative call, reducing the need for patients to be transported elsewhere after hours for urgent and emergent procedures, an impactful change that improves both patient outcomes and experience.

The team has also been actively engaged in learning collaboratives aimed at enhancing the overall patient experience. Their efforts have led to measurable improvements, particularly in discharge education and post-operative care, reflecting their commitment to continuous improvement and patient-centered care.

While the perioperative team may not always be front and center, their role is undeniably vital. They are a cornerstone of safe, high-quality care and a driving force behind meaningful improvements that benefit patients, families, surgeons, and anesthesia providers alike.

We are truly fortunate to have this dedicated team. Their resilience, collaboration, and commitment to excellence make them exceptionally deserving of recognition as a Team DAISY honoree.
