A pediatric cardiac arrest came into our department, and sadly, the baby passed away. Phyllis and Percy had to tell the mother and father of the baby that their child had passed away.

Naturally, the parents were initially angry and upset, and it was Percy and Phyllis who calmed them and provided the support they desperately needed in that moment. Both Phyllis and Percy showed incredible kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness, and stayed with the mother and father the entire time, and were an emotional rock for them.

They expressed how grateful they were for the nursing staff, and I believe Phyllis was the reason they expressed such gratitude. When the mother was inconsolable, it was Phyllis who hugged her and reassured her, which in that time of need was the greatest thing she could’ve done for the family. She was gentle, kind, patient, and compassionate, which I firmly believe reflects who she is as a person.

We were very thankful to have her there that day, and it was clear to us that the family was thankful as well.
