I wanted to take a moment to compliment Penny St. Clair. She has been outstanding with the dementia patient we have had on the unit for days. Each night, she comes in and checks on him and makes sure she says “hello” to him and has taken the best care of him when she was his primary. Even when she is not involved in his care, she checks on him and interacts with him, offering her assistance. She has taken him on walks, kept him entertained, and medicated him appropriately by taking the time to talk to him, fed him appropriate foods, and assisted him with that.

It’s so easy to get frustrated with patients like this, and she has never lost her compassion for him, including making sure he gets out of his room and gets fed and medicated. When she was telling me about him tonight, she really made me feel the compassion that I have and that she has for others and for helping them. I thought she deserved a shoutout!
