You can't really recognize one of these wonderful ladies without the other. They are the perfect Ying and Yang. I would like to nominate Betsy Ellenberger CRNP and Peggy Stoeff CRNP on 10DG. They are exceptional clinicians. They not only do their day to day work but they also teach nurses, PAs, MDs, Resp Therapists, and anyone who will listen about the management of a patient. They look at the patients' needs from head to toe and act as a clinician and patient advocate. It is a race occasion in healthcare to find one gem like this, but hitting the lottery in finding 2 nurses of this caliber. I think of Betsy and Peggy as nurses first because they are proud to be nurses after years and years in this profession. Old school nurses are becoming rarer every day. They are what UPMC and every institution should be treasuring and recruiting and trying desperately to keep. Because without these teachers the future of nursing is grim. Everyone is so busy they lose sight of the person behind the disease. Not these nurses. They know the patients, their families, and even their pets. They have seen these patients at their very worst and know instinctively when something is not right. They are not above getting her hands dirty to do patient care if that is what is necessary, even with all their years and education, they are able to do the first lesson in nursing...caring. We are truly grateful.
