I first met Paula two years ago during my first hospital stay at AdventHealth South Overland Park. I was an inpatient experiencing a challenging episode of pancreatitis of unknown etiology. Paula demonstrated an extraordinary level of compassion and professionalism that made a profound impact on me as a human and on my recovery.
From the moment I was under her care, I felt a sense of warmth and kindness; her caring demeanor and empathetic approach created an environment where I felt safe and respected. Paula took the time to actually listen to my concerns, actively providing comfort and reassurance that eased my anxiety; it was obvious I was in good hands. Her clinical excellence was evident in her skilled and attentive care. She asked questions nobody asked and independently researched what might be the underlying factors contributing to my condition. She was observant and precise, ensuring that every detail of my treatment was addressed.
It was clear that she possessed a deep knowledge of her field, which instilled confidence not only in me but also in my family. What truly sets Paula apart is her dedication as an advocate and support for her patients. She consistently went above and beyond, checking in on my progress long after my initial stay. Recently, I was hospitalized again for the same thing, and to my surprise, she showed up on her day off to check in on me. Once again, she provided us with the same valuable support and guidance she gave to us during our previous hospital stay. Her unwavering advocacy has been instrumental in equipping my wife and me with the specific questions to pose to our doctors and in helping us navigate the complexities of the healthcare system. These acts of kindness are a serious testament to her commitment to her patients and her desire to make a difference in their lives. The special connections and trust that Paula fosters with her patients are invaluable. I cannot stress enough how safe and seen she made me feel during my most vulnerable moments, and her continued presence in my life has provided hope and reassurance to my wife and me long after my discharge.
