Her body of work through an impressive career shows that Pattie is dedicated to her work and patients.
Patricia has supported the growth and expansion of the hematology/oncology services at UCLA Health and contributed to the body of nursing knowledge and mentored numerous oncology nurses in a career that spans more than 25 years at UCLA Health. Pattie helped transition the Solid Tumor service to SM 4SWW by training nurses to care for this population. She educated staff on chemotherapy and novel drug therapies through the years as treatments rapidly advanced in this field.

Recently, she initiated the training of AMN medical/surgical nurses to the care of the innovative CAR-T cell therapy, helping them learn the knowledge and acquire the skills on the oncology unit and infusion center. She also oversees nursing care of the latest new service at SM Hematologic Malignancies services. For many years, she collaborated with the oncology CNS to teach med/surg nurses about the administration of cytotoxic agents in non-oncology settings.

Among her achievements on her unit, Pattie and the staff are empowered to help the patients and families deal with the heartbreak of diagnosis and the fight that follows. They engaged the program "3 Wishes" and have granted a dying father a snow day with his family and a wedding to a patient before she passed. She shared the emotional experiences as a panel speaker at our facility conference. During the pandemic, she supervised a group of deployed RNs that became safety monitors. She coordinated their responsibilities and schedules to ensure coverage and support to all areas with COVID-19 patients.

Throughout all this, she oversees the quality of care to improve patient outcomes, such as with CVC line infections. She is also a resource for colleagues and staff to consult for CVC or Portacath issues. Her body of work through an impressive career shows that Pattie is dedicated to her work and patients. Most of all, Pattie has a positive attitude, is a pleasure to work with, supports others, including myself during my personal loss by caring and listening.
