August 2026 Honoree
Patsy Cordova, RN
Today I had the most exceptional experience with Patsy Cordova. I have spent countless hours researching and trying to find the right specialized assistance for our roommate, who is a high-functioning adult on the autism spectrum. It has been incredibly difficult to find services for him, as he—and I imagine many others like him—slips through the cracks because he doesn’t fit into conventional care models.
As a former healthcare professional in dentistry, I know that people on the inside often have access to resources and insights that those on the outside may not be aware of. So, I decided to take an unconventional approach by calling the nurse line in hopes of reaching someone who might be able to guide me in the right direction.
Patsy was truly an angel. I could not be happier that I took that chance. She did not dismiss my questions or concerns, nor did she give me a generic response about how the nurse line is only for certain types of calls. Instead, she listened attentively, took the time to understand my experience, and met me with exactly what I needed in that moment: empathy and a genuine willingness to help.
She made me feel seen and validated in my struggle by sharing a similar experience she had while seeking care for her own daughter. She went above and beyond by providing me with valuable resources I would have never discovered otherwise. Patsy—and her charge nurse, whom I also had the pleasure of speaking with—are the kind of healthcare professionals who restore my faith in the system.
There is truly no substitute for the empathy and kindness that women like them bring to patient care. I feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to connect with them today.
Thank you both so much for your outstanding care. I hope this small gesture of appreciation reminds you that you do make a difference in people’s lives and that you are deeply valued by those who seek your help. God bless you both.
