She wrapped him in warm blankets and played jazz music, his favorite, and he was able to enjoy an unseasonably warm winter morning outside for the first time in months.
I witnessed Patrycja provide exceptional care to a particular patient on our unit several times. This particular patient has been on our unit for 3 months and is homeless with no known family members. His condition requires mechanical ventilation and total nursing care. On Valentine's Day, Patrycja went to the hospital gift shop to get him something to lift his spirits. She returned with a big, blue, fuzzy stuffed animal, which the patient named "Ho Ho." He was so surprised and had a big smile on his face- one that we hadn't seen in quite a few days. Ho Ho has been at his side ever since. Several days later, Patrycja took care of this patient again. At the start of the shift, she made a plan to get him up in the compiler and take a trip outside for some fresh air and a change of scenery.
In the morning, Patrycja organized collaborative care with fellow nurses, respiratory therapists, and public safety to put her plan into action. She wrapped him in warm blankets and played jazz music, his favorite, and he was able to enjoy an unseasonably warm winter morning outside for the first time in months. This is just a snippet of how dedicated Patrycja is to her patients. She is attentive, caring, and a consistent advocate for her patients. I am proud to have a coworker like Patrycja!
